The creature is quiet now, and even in the darkness you can see that it is smaller, hunched and turned inwards. "You are in pain, David. Let it go. Neither of you wanted to hurt each other. With a heart-wrenching scream, the being stands to its full height, as though it has changed its mind back to killing you. After a moment though, it turns, and flees. You see its dark shape as it leaves the room, goes down the stairs, and finally exits the manor. The tormented soul of David, though maybe not at rest, has finally left this house unhaunted once again. As you watch the being leave, you know that it is finally safe here.
